About
SimCity is a project I started working on back in March
1997. Since its conception, SimCity has grown from a small demo into a
full feldged simulator. I've tried as much as possible to stay true to
the computer version of SimCity.
Download
The following files are available for download:
- simcity.zip SimCity v0.99b
- simcity96.zip SimCity v0.96B
(previous release)
Current Build: The current build is 29 bytes smaller than the last
release.
Features
SimCity give you the ability to create residential, commercial, and
industrial zones, build parks, police and fire stations, airports, and
seaports. You can get information about your city's size, pollution and
crime rates. Your city can either be coal powered, or nuclear
powered. When starting from scratch, you can pick from 5 different types
of maps.
Zones
For those of you not familiar with SimCity, there are three basic types
of zones: residential, commercial, and industrial. Your citizens live in
the residential zones, work in the industrial zones, and shop in the
commercial zones. To grow properly, your
city will need a proper mix of all three types of zones.
In addition to the residential, commercial and industrial zones, there
are city structures. These are police and fire departments, power plants,
and roads. Each of these requires maintaince each year. These costs are
summarized below:
| Zone
| Build
| Maintaince (/yr)
| Police Station | $500 | $15
| | Fire Station | $500 | $15
| | Seaport | $500 | $50
| | Airport | $500 | $50
| | Coal Power Plant | $500 | $50
| | Nuclear Power Plant | $500 | $100
| | Roads | $10 | $5

Information
Under the Info menu, there are 4 choices: Crime, Pollute, Value,
and Budget. Each of these will give you specific information about
your city.
- Crime: Displays a map of crime in your city. Darker areas mean
more crime.
- Pollute: Displays a map of pollution in your city. Darker
areas mean more pollution.
- Value: Shows a map of city land value. Darker values are higher
valued.
- Budget: Brings up the city budget. Tells you how much money
your city is generating and how much it costs to operate your city. The
up and down arrows adjust the tax rate. [ENTER] accepts the value, [EXIT]
cancels.
Game Menu
- Options: Lets you change the simulation settings, including
disasters, auto-goto, auto-budget, and game speed
- New Map Lets you create one of five new maps:
You have the choice of 5 new types of maps:
- Plain: just a regular vanilla map.
- Forrest: A map with patches of park scattered all over.
- River: Basically a forrest with a couple rivers crossing the city.
- Coast: Your city is boarded by the coast on one side.
- Island: You guessed it.
Disasters
Your city can now be ravaged by the following disasters:
flooding
fires
UFOs
Tornados
Nuclear Meltdown
Demand
A growing city has a variety of different needs. As a city
grows, its needs change. Small cities have more demand for industrial
zones. Medium cities require a good mix of commercial, and industrial.
Large cities have most their non-residential propulation concentrated in
commerce. As well, sea- and air-ports are required for industry and
commerce to sustain their growth. Finally, A city cannot continue to grow
without sufficient power. To help you as youplay, the simulator now
informs you of what's required for your city to continue growing. A letter
will apear in the right side of the title bar. The letter stands for what
is in demand. This is summarised below:
| Letter | Meaning
| A | Airport demanded
| | C | Commerce zones required
| | I | Industrial zones required
| | P | More power required
| | R | Residential zones required
| | S | Seaport demanded
