NEWS May 28, 1999: I'm experimenting with a few compression paradigms for the movie player format. Early experiments yielded 93% compression on the demo movie. This was 82% better than an uncompressed version. Although saving alot of space, the quality of the movie was very inferior.
| What is it? MoviePlayer is a revolutionary piece of software, currently only avaialble on the TI-85. It playes movies, but uses a special format. Instead of storing each frame, only the changes to the next frame are stored, resulting in highly compressed movies. The decompression algorithm is fast enough to allow for decent frame rates. |

What's in store for later In a word, plenty. Full screen playback will be implemented, as will be full screen movies (current movies are 64x32 and played back only at 1:1). In addition real-time effects will also be added. These effects will include fade to white, fade to black, shift up, shift down, shift left, and shift right.
